After School Programs

We just completed our first week of After School programs at Graffiti 2! WOW!!! It's been an amazing week! This week was definite confirmation that I am exactly where God wants me. We have about 60 1st-12th grade students in our After School programs. Here are a few pictures that I got from this week:

I posted a few on Facebook also!

Several of you have asked what our After School programs look like. Here's a schedule that we follow:

About 2:30--We start picking up kids from school. We walk to the schools to pick the kids up and walk them back to Graffiti 2. There are 3 elementary schools that we pick up kids from. The 6th-12th grade students walk to Graffiti 2 on their own. Jess (one of G2's staff) and I pick up 6 kids each day. We pick them up about 3:00 and get back to Graffiti 2 about 3:15.
3:15--Restroom/Snacks--We give the kids a snack each day when we get to Graffiti 2.
3:30-5:00--Homework Time/Bible Study/Academic Enrichment
5:00-6:00--Enrichment "Happy Hour"--During the time, the kids get to participate in a class of their choosing. We switch out these classes every 4 weeks. The classes for October include All Things Fall (fall arts/crafts), Baseball (go to park and play/learn baseball), Critiquing Movies, and a Test Prep class.
6:00--Dismissal

I am helping teach the Test Prep class for 7th and 8th grade students. In NYC, students in 8th grade apply to go to high school. They can apply to go to any NYC public high school. This is great for students who may live in an area where the high schools are not meeting the state's standards. There are also "specialized" high schools in NYC. To get into one of these high schools, students must take a specialized high school test. If they score in the top, they can gain acceptance into one of the specialized high schools. In the Test Prep class, we will help prepare those students who are taking the specialized test and help them with their high school applications.

As many of you know, we, as a G2 staff, are reading through a book by Mother Teresa. Here's a quote that stuck out to me last week:

"He comes and uses us to be His love and compassion in the world in spite of our weaknesses and frailties."

Thank you for your constant support, prayers, and encouragement!
